Kentucky is one of my favorite states and it will take more than one post
to log everything we seen.
Our first stop was to meet up with friends in Cave City, Kentucky.
Teri ran the roads with us while Joe worked.
We did something different, we went to
Lost River Cave. It was a great tour with a lot of history.
Mammoth Cave.
We took the easy tour. It was beautiful but next time we will
be taking the long tour!!
Cave snowballs on the roof
Old cave graffiti.
Mostly advertising
The rocks on the floor fell from the hole
in the ceiling
This was our first trip to a cooperage.
Learning how they build and fire the barrels was
a bonus to how the bourbon is distilled.
We toured Willett years ago.
The tour is packed with so much history about the company.
They are also building a bed and breakfast on site.
We will be staying there when they open.
Look at the bubbles.
Roll the barrels on the rails
These are hams. A local chef has his hams aged in the rick house.
Barrel weigh station
This was our first time here.
This place has survived fires and was able to keep
their license during Prohibition.
This pump moves the product from the
distiller below.
Our tour guide did something we had never seen.
She took some of the white dog/moonshine and poured it in our hands.
We rubbed our hands together and smelled. We did that 4 separate times and each time
we got a new aroma. I thought it would be sticky but I was wrong. Our hands were left very
soft from the oils in the grains.
Barrel houses are my favorite part of the tours.
This is always one of my favorite tours. We thought Teri would
like it so we drove another hour across the state just to share this
with her. It was worth the drive!
These barrels are made in Missouri
Love it when the Blanton's bottling line is running
Such a beautiful sunset
Making our way to the mitten
