At Sunnyvale with the family

We parked the rig at Travis AFB and took off to spend some time with the family. 

The pool was finally warm enough and the boys were ready to get wet.

We took Ian to Hiller Air Museum.  After we left there we went to the airport cafe and Ian said he wanted to go back to the museum.  I think he had a good time.

 I asked him if he wanted to go back to the museum or the beach.

Tim was kind enough to let me hang around for the automated milking and showed us the whole cheese making process, including a sample.

 I also got to witness the making of a calf when there is no daddy.  Yes folks I got to see artificial insemination in person.  I did not get too close because I was not dressed for the occasion.  That act will be burned in my mind for awhile.

Needless to say the cheeses are wonderful.  We bought four different kinds and they are all great, but my favorite is the truffle infused cheese.  Oh my!

Two More FamCamps

We have added two FamCamps to our list.

 

Fairways is located near Oxnard, CA.  We did a little sightseeing while we were here and it was worth it.   We drove to Point Mugu, CA and it was beautiful.  On this day and the waves were rolling and the sand was blowing.



 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We moved onto Camp Roberts in Paso Robles, CA.  This old base has so much history and it's the first place I got busted for taking pictures.  Yes me!  I was getting back into my car when a a man in uniform pulled up next to me and asked if I had permission to take pictures on base.  I said, "no sir I don't but if you would like I can delete what I have shot right now".  He said, "no but don't take any more photos".  I asked him about the history of the old buildings and learned that the WWII solders were sent here before battle and the brought back here after the war.  I wish we would have had time to tour the museum I am sure there is a lot more information there.

Admiral Baker FamCamp

San Diego is beautiful and BUSY.  We didn't get to stay at the FamCamp we wanted.  It was beautiful, right on the bay.  Next time I will make a reservation way a head of time.

Our first day trip was to the USS Midway.  This took the whole day and was so worth it.

 

We also took a city tour on the Old Town Trolly.  We try to jump on these if the town has one.  You get to see so much more and you get the history of the place we visit.  Thanks Dad!!  You can jump on and off the trolley as many times as you want.  We get there early because we spend the whole day riding around.

The vegetable garden planted at the plaza is beautiful.  The food will be donated to a local shelter.

 We have a couple stop and then we will be in San Fransisco to visit the grandsons.

Our Trip to Yuma 2014

 

Before we left for Yuma we had a beautiful full moon.  I used my 500mm and new tri-pod to get these photos.  I did not get any of the blood moon, that I wanted to post, but it was something to see.  I think I was up till 1 am.  It was great!

 

We stayed busy while we were at Aguve Gulch FamCamp at Davis-Manthan AFB.
We went to the Pima Air Museum and took a tour of the bone yard.  The bone yard is where they store airplanes and helicopters for future use, to part out or sell the shell of the plane to the public.

 

This airplane is the Sentimental Journey.  The

original crew flew her in for this display.  Great Story

        

 

What do they do with old parts? 

They sell them at the museum store!

 

 

 

We also ventured north to Mt. Lemmon.

We took a ski lift ride to the top and walked

around.  It was cold and windy.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 And last but not least we stopped by Old Tuscon.  If you are a fan of western movies you will love this place.  They had memorabilia from Old Chaparral, Little House on the Prairie and Bonanza.  Plus about 200 other movies.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 



And that concludes our tip to Yuma.   

 

Now we are in San Diego, CA and the journey north begins north.
