We stayed at Cross Winds Family Campground.
It was a beautiful place.
Bill found his lake
They really liked the grapes
We found another gem.
The Smoke Pit had great food and service.
I got the smoked turkey salad and Bill got a little bit of everything.
On Tuesday we met Teri and toured UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University. These are two beautiful old campuses who's statues are being protested or have been removed.
Silent Sam was erected in memory of UNC confederate soldiers.
At the dedication of the statue, in 1913, Confederate War Veteran Julian Carr made a racial comment that buy to days standards (not 1913 standards) would be totally unexceptionable.
This is the Unsung Founders Monument.
This statue is profound.
It represents the enslaved and freed slaves who build the university.
A sip from the well on the first day of class
could bring good luck for the coming school year.
This is Teri on her tip toes, getting a drink.
The Carolina Alumni Memorial in Memory of Those Lost in Military Service.
Our next stop was Duke University and the chapel.
This area reminds me of Harry Potter
Duke is not without it's confederate controversy.
As you enter the chapel you will notice a stature is missing from
the right hand side.
the right hand side.
Robert E. Lee was removed from his spot
We sure have added some miles to the rig this year.
Next stop, Mayport, FL
