Our Second FAM Camp

This is Cocoa Beach, Florida while staying at the Patrick AFB FAM Camp.  We have had some very windy-wet days here but I was able to get some great pictures.

The first night we had a groups of very busy horseshoe crabs on the beach.

We had a lot of cloudy days and that made the sunsets beautiful.

This was one of the highlights and we only got to see it once.  I realize I need to take more pictures of things moving.  This ship was hard to center.

We had a couple days where the wind just whipped.  It was hard to sleep because of the noise.  These pictures are from one of those windy mornings.

Because we are in Florida, we still have beautiful flowers in bloom.

This is the rig after she has been battered by sand, salt and wind.  She looks pretty good.

We also did the tourist things and went to the Kennedy Space Center, Cocoa Beach, Port Canaveral, and the Astronaut Hall of Fame.

This is a 5 ft. shark in the water.  We were on the pier and a guy had hooked it and was trying to reel it in.  The shark walked him twice around the pier then headed for shore.  He finally got off the pier and went to the shore where his rod was tethered down to him.  He landed the shark and then set it free.  It was exciting!

These pictures were taken from the Exploration Tower in Port Canaverial.  This building just opened and really puts meaning to the areas history.

We ate at Baja Tavern at the port.  It was my first lobster roll.  I didn't eat the bread, just wanted the lobster!  The kitty is a member of the "I love seafood club".  She is a little wild but loves to be rubbed.

The Astronaut Hall of Fame was fantastic.  I wish we would have had more time to really read everything.

We are currently parked at Lazy Days in Seffner, Florida waiting to have the dash repaired.  Seems Gorilla Tape wont hold it in place.
Oh the DRAMA!!

Next stop McDill AFB!

Our Time in Florida 2013

It is good to report that the weather just keeps getting warmer!

We started our Florida adventure at the Stephen Foster State Park with Dad & Mary.  It was a beautiful park.  This is the tower that plays Stephen Foster tunes.  You can hear it through the whole park.

Our next stop was our first FAM camp.  We stayed at Jacksonville Navy Air Station.  I didn't take any pictures of the base, but it was fantastic.  This is our campsite.

We started this day off with a trip to the American Culinary Federation main office. Lorie McKown, the administrator for the American Academy of Chefs, gave us a tour of the building.  They have a lot of archives and artwork on display.

After the tour we went to old St. Augustine.  We took the trolley and made it a day trip.

We walked around the Castillo de San Marcos.  It is the oldest masonry fort in the continental United States.

Two of my favorite stops were to view buildings that were built by Henry Flagler. The first was the Presbyterian Church that Henry Flagler had dedicated to his daughter after she died.

The second was the old Ponce de Leon hotel that Flagler built.  It is now Flagler College.  You can see that this building was a beautiful hotel.  Now it is a fantastic college.

These are random photos I took throughout the day.  Old wrought iron in the cemeteries, flowers, fountains, the 1850 Jolly Roger and food.

We had dinner outside and it was wonderful.  This is the view we had and dinner.

The most special part of the whole trip was getting to see my nephew and his family.  This is daddy being a daddy and me with Declan.  He is a sweetie!

Now we are off to Coco Beach so you know there will be more photos to come.
